Three focused paper sessions are being organized:
Collecting, Preserving and Accessioning Genetic Resources Panel Session
The Laboratory of Molecular Systematics is co-ordinating a paper session on issues relevant to frozen genetic resource repositories. Tentative topics to be covered include: preserving genetic/genomic information; collection complementarity between "traditional" specimens and those in genetic repositories; accession and loan policies for genetic resource repositories; databasing a world inventory of frozen genetic resources; and, the role of genetic resource repositories in conservation and endangered species management. Health and Safety Issues in Collections Session
This session will co-ordinate paper submissions with a Health & Safety theme. Other topics to be covered will include: transport rules; residual preservatives; arsenic; and, fluid collections. Wednesday, June 30, 9:30am-12:00pm
Repatriation Session
This session will cover topics related to repatriation of Native American human remains and objects. This will include: legal issues; sensitivity issues and good relations; collection management issues; alternatives to repatriation (visitations, "feedings," lending, etc.); offering collection management training to groups taking custody of repatriated material.
