The Smithsonian Marine Ecosystems Exhibit (SMEE) in Fort Pierce, Florida is located along the shore of the most diverse estuary in the United States - the Indian River Lagoon – and provides a window into this underwater world. With a focus on displaying ecosystems as complex communities of organisms interacting in their environments, the Marine Ecosystems Exhibit offers visitors an opportunity to explore six different Florida estuarine and marine habitats and learn about the diversity and importance of marine ecosystems. With the help of dynamic displays, Exhibit staff strives to provide the public with a better understanding of the marine ecosystems of the IRL and surrounding area and the impact humans are having on these fragile environments. This poster presentation will highlight the aspects of SMEE that provide unique opportunities and encounters for visitors and staff alike.
