Judith E. Winston
Virginia Museum of Natural History
Abstract

Judith Winston is currently Curator of Marine Biology at the Virginia Museum of Natural History, and a Research Associate of the NMNH. From 1980-1992 she held curatorial positions at the American Museum of Natural History. She was educated at Brown University (A.B., 1966), the University of New Hampshire (M.S., 1970) and the University of Chicago (Ph.D., 1974), and held a postdoctoral fellowship from the Smithsonian Institution from 1974-1976. She began working on ecology and taxonomy of Indian River area bryozoans during the months she spent at the Smithsonian Marine Station while carrying out her postdoctoral research. Over the years she has returned to carry out many bryozoan-related projects at the lab, including a study of the population biology of free-living cupuladriid bryozoans, and a revision of the MCZ specimens of Smitt's " Floridan Bryozoa" (1872-1873). She has also carried out marine research at STRI and at Carrie Bow Cay.
