Abstract

Bjorn Tunberg is a marine ecologist at SMS in Fort Pierce since 2001 working mainly on “Ecological Assessment of the Indian River Lagoon.” Bjorn received his marine biology education in Bergen, Norway in 1980, and his PhD degree (zoology) at the University of Goteborg, Sweden in 1984. He spent two years (1985-1987) as a postdoc at Florida Tech and at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution, performing ecological studies in the IRL. After returning to Sweden he worked as a marine ecologist at the Kristineberg Marine Research Station for the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and later the University of Goteborg. He was appointed Associate Professor in 1996. Bjorn was in charge of the long-term and large-scale macrobenthic monitoring program on the Swedish west coast between 1988 and 1999. He serves as a U.S. representative within the ICES Benthos Ecology Working Group, and works in close cooperation with South Florida Water Management District within the Everglades Restoration Program
