Virginia Museum of Natural History
abstract

Judith Winston is currently Curator of Marine Biology at the Virginia Museum of Natural History. From1980-1992 she held curatorial positions at the American Museum of Natural History. She was educated at Brown University (A.B., 1966), the University of New Hampshire (M.S., 1970) and the University of Chicago (Ph.D., 1974), and held a postdoctoral fellowship from the Smithsonian Institution. She has been working on the USARP bryozoan collections since1982 and trained technicians at AMNH, the SOSC, and VMNH to sort and carry out preliminary identification of the more than 8,000 lots in that collection. She and Dr. Peter J. Hayward of the University of Wales, Swansea, have published taxonomic and ecological papers on material from the collection. In 1984 Dr. Winston also received an NSF grant which enabled her to carry out research on behavior and chemical ecology of Antarctic species during the 1985 austral summer and fall.
