Nick Tothill
Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory
abstract

Nick Tothill was born and educated in the United Kingdom. After working in Germany and Canada, he spent four years at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory with the AST/RO project, as a postdoctoral fellow, and then as an astrophysicist. He wintered at the South Pole in 2004 as AST/RO scientist-in-residence and Station Science Leader. He is currently a Research Fellow at the University of Exeter, UK, where he participates in ARENA, a European collaboration to produce a roadmap for astronomical facilities in Antarctica, particularly at Concordia Station. He is also working with the HEAT team to open Dome A to Terahertz astronomy, and with two IPY programmes, ASTROPOLES and STELLA ANTARCTICA, developing astronomical plans for both Arctic and Antarctic sites.
