Abstract

OBSERVING WITH AST/RO AT THE SOUTH POLE

Antony A. Stark
Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory
Bio

SAO premieres a short film about observing with the AST/RO telescope at the South Pole. Astronomers live at the National Science Foundation Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, where they walk to work past the South Pole to the telescopes in the Dark Sector. The exceptionally clear and stable skies of the Antarctic Plateau allow an unprecedented view of the cosmos. Follow Smithsonian astronomer Tony Stark through a South Pole working day, detecting dense interstellar gas falling into the Black Hole in the center of the Milky Way.
