Marc Rothenberg

Marc Rothenberg
National Science Foundation, Office of Legislative and Public Affairs
abstract

Marc Rothenberg became agency historian for the National Science Foundation in December 2006, after thirty-one years with the Joseph Henry Papers Project at the Smithsonian Institution. He left the Smithsonian after overseeing the completion of the eleventh, and last, volume of the Papers of Joseph Henry, now in press (Science History Publications/USA). A historian of astronomy, physics, and American scientific institutions, with publications in such journals as Historical Records of Australian Science, The Astronomical Journal, Pacific Science, Osiris, and The Journal for the History of Astronomy, Rothenberg first became interested in the history of polar research in the 1970s while conducting research for exhibitions concerned with the scientific exploration of North America for the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia and the American Museum of Natural History.
