abstract

Patrick Neale is a Senior Scientist at SERC. He has degrees from SUNY Purchase, Columbia University and UC Davis. His research concerns aquatic photosynthesis and light transmission in aquatic environments. In the last decade, his main focus has been on the effects of ultraviolet radiation on phytoplankton. Pat’s research has taken him to lakes in the Andes, Antarctica. England, Switzerland, and Pennsylvania. He has studied marine/estuarine algae in the Antarctic, Arctic, Chesapeake Bay and Gulf of Mexico. Dr. Neale’s research in the Antarctic has been part of the US effort to understand the ecological implications of the ozone hole that seasonally forms over the South Pole.
