Christopher Martin
has had the rare pleasure of watching the sun set over the Antarctic
plateau during two winter-over years at the Amundsen-Scott South
Pole Station and is thus well acclimatized to bitter cold. However,
no matter how cold it was outside, the wonders of the sky always
warmed his heart with their stunning beauty and scientific import.
As a scientist with the Antarctic Sub-mm Telescope / Remote
Observatory (AST/RO) and South Pole Station Science Leader,
Dr. Martin spent those winters studying star formation, galactic
dynamics, and the properties of the Earth’s atmosphere
over the Poles. Now as a professor at Oberlin College outside
of Cleveland, OH, he continues his research while teaching future
generations of explorers about the wonders of the universe. |
