IMAX and PLANETARIUM ON DEMAND

IMAX and Planetarium On Demand is a program specifically designed for groups. Enjoy an early morning screening of the educational IMAX film or Planetarium feature of your choice. You can opt for a film that is currently running, or choose from our vast Libraries of Adventures.

All of our films have Standards of Learning Connections and educators guides are often available. The following are some examples of our offerings:

Space Station 3D (Lockheed Martin IMAX Theater). Experience life on the International Space Station.  Filmed and directed by astronauts, this is the story of a unique partnership between the 16 nations that are building a space laboratory 220 miles above Earth.

Educators guides are designed for grades 3-9 and cover subjects such as Earth sciences, foreign language, technology, engineering, geography and math.

Bugs 3D: A Rainforest Adventure (Johnson IMAX Theater).  Venture to an amazing universe, where raindrops fall like hand grenades, a leaf weighs more than a car, and a blade of grass soars high into the clouds. Bugs! introduces us to a cast of insect “characters” who will fascinate all.

Educators guides are designed for grades K-8 and cover subjects involving natural sciences.

The Magic of Flight (Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center IMAX Theater).  Strap into the cockpit of a Blue Angels jet aircraft to experience the thrill of high performance flight. The Magic of Flight balances the excitement of an air show with the science and history of flight, tracing the dawning of powered flight at Kittyhawk in 1903 to the supersonic manoeuvres of today's aircraft. The high-energy film affirms the importance of training and teamwork as it conveys the pure joy of flight.

Educators Guides are designed for grades X-X and cover subjects including:  A, B and C

The Stars Tonight (Albert Einstein Planetarium). Let one of the Planetarium’s staff astronomers take you on a journey to the night sky. This presentation will give your group a crystal clear glimpse at the stars in the sky above DC on the day of your visit.  Students can also ask questions regarding the skies and our solar system.

This live lecture is designed for groups of all ages and include subjects such as science and technology.

On Demand shows are offered daily at 9:30 a.m. The first group to reserve the screening selects the film for that show.

Please note that each theater has a different library and your choice may not be available at every theater. Click here to see a complete listing by theater of the films offered.
