Film Mainstream Native America, Part 1: The Godfather
Film
The themes of today's film -- cultural displacement, the realization of the American dream, and family allegiances -- parallel many issues Native Americans face today.

The Godfather (1972, 3 hrs., directed by Francis Ford Coppola) This Oscar-winning adaptation of Mario Puzo's bestselling novel relates the epic story of the Corleone family, their place in America, and their role in the post-WWII rivalry among the New York Mafia's five families.

Following the screening, Hanay Geiogamah (Kiowa/Delaware) leads a discussion with filmmaker Chris Eyre (Cheyenne/Arapaho), who directed Smoke Signals, the second film in this series, and American Indian Museum director Kevin Gover (Pawnee/Comanche).

Co-sponsored with the National Gallery of Art.
