Each fall, nine Supreme Court justices begin hearing and deliberating the country's most important -- and often most controversial -- legal cases. Some of the case will be previewed and discussed today: 10 AM-Noon: Court officers explain the traditions and procedures of the Supreme Court. Noon-1:30 PM: Dine in the Supreme Court cafeteria. 2 PM-4 PM: Back at the Smithsonian, legal experts debate critical issues raised in some of the cases the court will hear during the current term. Note: No door sales. Bring valid government-issued ID for entry to the Supreme Court.

In anticipation of the grand reopening, beginning at "twilight's last gleaming," the museum presents an outdoor photographic light show projected on the four-stories-high building featuring the following four themes:
Star-Spangled Banner, featuring historic images of the flag and the conservation project Celebration, showcasing fireworks and other patriotic imagery Real National Treasures, highlighting such objects as George Washington's military uniform, the scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz, and Julia Child's Kitchen Choose Your Own Adventure, presenting images of visitors in the museum.
