The seemingly isolated Hebridean islands off the west coast of Scotland may seem remote but for centuries they were part of a great sea route. In this illustrated talk, William Cassidy shares the 7,000-year-old history and the rugged beauty of these islands, from the Neolithic stone circle of Callanish to the medieval monastery of Iona and castles of the MacDonalds, MacLeans, and MacLouds, as well as the stunning countryside of these ancient and enduring archipelagos.

Pulitzer Prize-winning authors E.O. Wilson (professor emeritus, Harvard University) and Bert Holldobler (foundation professor, Arizona State University) collaborate again to bring us stunning new research on superorganisms known as insect societies. They also discuss their remarkable research over the last 20 years that has led to important advances in understanding how life has evolved from simple to complex forms. Book signing follows. Composer, conductor, and commentator Rob Kapilow, accompanied by pianist Tanya Bannister, deconstructs and reconstructs Frederic Chopin's etudes and ballades, guiding the audience through selected portions of the piece to make each point clear. The evening ends with a complete performance of the featured work.
