Kabbalah for the 21st Century
All-Day Seminar |

Kabbalah, which means "receiving," is the ancient mystical tradition of Judaism. While largely esoteric, its concepts and practices have inspired Jews and gentiles throughout the centuries. Instructor Rabbi David Shneyer (spiritual leader of Kehilah Chadashi, Bethesda and director of Am Kolel Sanctuary Retreat and Renewal Center in Maryland) explores how these concepts and practices add a special dimension to our lives today.

Film Indians Now: It's Not TV, It's Indians!
Performance, with TV clips, discussion, and reception |
To kick off American Indian Heritage Month, three Native artists -- Ben-Alex Dupris (Colville), Skeena Reece (Tsimshian/Gitksan/Cree), and Terrance Houle (Blackfoot/Saulteaux) -- offer high-energy, interactive, performance-art pieces inspired by their favorite television "Indian episodes," which featured a Native actor as special guest or a Native-inspired theme. While often lacking cultural sensitivity, the shows remain popular in Native communities. Discussion with the artists and moderator Shane Belcourt (Metis) and dessert reception follow.
