Making Connections: The Endocrine & Immune Systems & the Brain
Lecture |
 | |
For obscure reasons, the neurosciences and immunology evolved separately. Today, a major shift has occurred and psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) -- the study of the interrelationships among the brain, the endocrine and immune systems, and the emotions -- has confirmed that these systems influence each other greatly. Leading PNI researcher Jan Moynihan (professof of psychiatry, microbiology and immunology, University of Rochester Medical Center) shares compelling evidence that the immune system is integrated with other psychological and biological processes and is, therefore, influenced by and capable of influencing the brain.
