Lecture Where the Romans Were: Vacation Destinations for Ancient
Aristocrats: Lecture
Between the Bay of Naples and rumbling Mount Vesuvius was an area considered prime real estate by the ancient Romans. Pompeii, Stabiae, Herculaneum, and other nearby communities were the year-round vacation destinations of Roman aristocrats. In this illustrated lecture, Steve Rutledge (associate professor of classics, University of Maryland) discusses the life and culture of this favorite vacation spot of the ancient world.
