(for ages 5-10) Explore spring holidays from around the world that celebrate new life, rebirth, and the return of warmth to the earth: May Day (with its May pole), Easter (and the older holiday Oestre), Pesach (Passover), Nowruz (Persian New Year), and Buddha's birthday. From his riveting radio reports of World War II to his dramatic television showdown with Sen. Joseph McCarthy, Edward R. Murrow established the gold standard for American broadcast journalism. His life and career will be remembered on the 100th anniversary of his birth through replays of historic broadcasts and remembrances from those who knew him well. Join Murrow colleagues Richard C. Hottelet and Marvin Kalb, along with Murrow's son Casey Murrow, for a memorable evening of personal reflections, the stories behind the stories, and insights into Murrow's influence on generations of journalists. Michael Freedman hosts. Reception follows.

Bridget Stutchbury (leading expert on migratory birds) discusses how she follows songbirds from their breeding grounds in North America to their wintering grounds in Latin America and back again to understand what challenges they face along the way. Before the lecture, she signs copies of her book Silence of the Songbirds. Presented in conjunction with the Migratory Bird Center's Bird Fest 2008.
