ImaginAsia Family Program

(2007, 134 min., directed by Kim Myeong-joon, Korean with English subtitles) In this documentary about the rarely depicted lives of the pro-North Korea community of Koreans living on the Japanese island of Hokkaido, Kim follows these young people as they try to find their identity, which is somewhere between Korean and Japanese.

Workshop Family ArtLab for Teens
5-Week Studio Program
(for ages 13-18) In this intensive 5-week program, aspiring young artists have an opportunity to interact with peers, artists, and curators, and respond to objects from the collection. Students from local schools, grades 9-12, may apply. No previous art experience is necessary, and all materials are provided by the Hirshhorn.

Note: Students must have registered for all 5 sessions beginning with the April 6 session and have met application requirement. Apply online at artlab.si.edu. For more information, call 202-633-3382 or e-mail hmsgeducation@si.edu.

Smithsonian Chamber Music Society Performance
The Smithsonian Chamber Music Society celebrates its 31st season. This evening, The Smithsonian Chamber Players -- Ian Swensen and Marilyn McDonald (violins), Steven Dann (viola), Steven Doane (violoncello), and Kenneth Slowik (violoncello and fortepiano) -- performs works by Franz Schubert. The Society's artistic director Kenneth Slowik continues his popular pre-concert lectures, discussing the life and times of the featured composers one hour before the program.
