Art + Coffee: David Beck's Movie Palace or Museum
Luce Foundation Center Activity |
 |
 |
Peek into one of David Beck's sculptures: Movie Palace features characters in action -- eating popcorn, smooching, and watching King Kong on the big screen. Museum was commissioned by the museum and reflects -- in exquisite miniature -- the neoclassical architecture of the building, from the 1840s when it was the U.S. Patent Office to the present day. Afterwards, enjoy a complimentary coffee or tea.

Historically Accurate Oil Painters' Ground Reconstructions
Lecture |

In this technical talk designed for a conservation audience, Leslie Carlyle (head of conservation, Tate, London) discusses ground reconstructions and her work with the Hart Project 2002-5. Six ground types found on paintings by Vincent Van Gogh were selected for reconstruction to investigate absorbent, semiabsorbent, and nonabsorbent grounds. She also talks about a complex recipe for an oil ground dated 1871 from the Winsor and Newton archive and analytical techniques used in this project. Cosponsored with the American Art Museum.
