Smithsonian Jazz AllianceThe Smithsonian Jazz Alliance is a consortium of individuals who research or work to preserve and present the history of jazz through collections, exhibitions, performances, recordings, radio programs, publications and educational programs both at the Smithsonian and across the nation. Staff members rpresent the Office of the Secretary, the National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Productions, the Center for Folklife Studies, SITES, the Center for African American History and Culture, the Anacostia Museum, the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, and the Smithsonian Associates. The Smithsonian Jazz Alliance provides an open forum to discuss, on a quarterly basis, pan-institutional projects, proposals and collaborations dealing with jazz. The Alliance is currently developing media materials describing the Smithsonian's vast and comprehensive jazz collections and programs. The Alliance will disseminate these materials to the public to enhance knowledge and appreciation for the eclectic array of collections, archives, exhibitions, presentations, performance, symposia, publications, educational programs, curricula, recordings, and radio programs having to do with jazz produced by the Smithsonian Institution. The Smithsonian Jazz Alliance is coordinated by America's Jazz Heritage, a Partnership of the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund and the Smithsonian Institution. |
