Letter holder, ca. 1885, cast iron. H. 6" x W. 9" x D. 5." SI.1991.005.

The rectangular base of the letter holder is supported by four scroll feet and the edges have an egg-and-dart motif and two cartouches (front and back). The front and back outwardly canting panels have pastoral scenes of a stag leaping over a fence pursued by two dogs. The center upright panel is surmounted by a decorative flat and pierced finial with a large finger hole for carrying. All surfaces are brass plated iron. The base bears the mark: B&H and the numbers 3549 and 7030.

Inkstand, ca.1885, cast iron, brass. H. 5" x W. 9" x D. 5." SI.1989.057.

The rectangular base of the ink well is supported by four scroll feet. The edges have an egg and dart motif and two cartouches (front and back).  Two bulbous brass inkwells, having gadrooned tops with finials, rest in two holes cut into the upper surface of the base. A back panel, in the form of a stag leaping over a fence being pursued by two dogs, is screwed to the base from underneath. All surfaces are brass plated iron. The base bears the mark: B&H and the numbers 3549 and 7030.

Inkstand, ca. 1890, cast iron, embossed glass font with lid. H. 5" x W. 5" x D. 5." SI.2003.055.

An octagonal iron base embossed with overlapping half circles and chevrons supports a pair of uprights connected by a metal rod to form a pen holder. The base has a recessed area in the center to hold the square glass inkwell with lid. Cast in the bottom of the base is "Pat. Apl'd For" and the triangular Bradley and Hubbard Manufacturing Company mark. Matches item # 6033 on page 18 of the ca. 1883 catalogue titled: Bradley and Hubbard MFG. CO. Bronze Inkstands, Etc., Etc. in the collection of the Meriden Historical Society, Meriden, Connecticut.

Inkstand, ca. 1920, Arts & Crafts Style, brass, glass insert. H. 1.75" x W. 5" x D. 5." SI.1991.007.

The square, tapering base is stamped from one piece of sheet brass and surrounds a cast iron inner base. The plain square lid is hinged at the back. A glass insert fits inside a small brass cup which is bolted to the cast iron inner base . The bolt has a brass washer which is stamped with the maker's triangle and lantern mark. The cast iron inner base bears the number 251. Listed as item number 1307 in the 1934 Bradley and Hubbard catalogue titled Distinctive Metalware for the Home and Office.

Pen Tray, ca. 1920, Arts & Crafts Style, brass. H. .425" x W. 8.25" x D. 2.615." SI.1991.008.

A plain rectangular pen tray, stamped from one piece of sheet brass, has outward flaring sides. The bottom is stamped with the maker's triangle and lantern mark.  Listed as item number 8291 in the 1934 Bradley and Hubbard catalogue titled Distinctive Metalware for the Home and Office.

Inkstand, ca. 1900-1920, Art Nouveau Style, brass, H. 2.5" x W.8.5 " x D. 4.75." SI.1991.006.

The base is cast in one piece in the shape of an elongated oval and serves as the pen holder. The form tapers up to a smaller lidded oval shape which holds a glass inkwell. The lid is oval shaped, is cast with an "S" shaped swirl that serves as a handle; the lid is hinged at the back. Shallow crescent shaped lines in the casting decorate the surfaces of the pen holder as well as the top. The maker's triangle and lantern mark is cast into the bottom.

Paper Weight, ca.1880, cast iron. H. 2.25" x W.3" x D.3." SI.1999.042.

The overall form is that of an eight-sided pyramid shaped body with an octagonal knob on top. A geometric chevron design is cast into the short sides and a stylized floral design is cast into the long sides. Although not marked, it matches item #6037 in a ca.1880 Bradley & Hubbard salesman's catalogue in the collection of the Meriden Historical Society, Meriden, Connecticut. It was produced with either a Dark Verde or Extra Gilt finish.

Inkstand, ca. 1930-1940, brass, glass, H. 3.25" x W. 4" x D. 4." SI.2006.002.

Four small brass ball feet are attached to the bottom of a square base with rounded corners made from 16 gauge brass. A raised brass bezel surrounds a square brass box that has a round brass cup inside and a round hinged lid. The lid has a small brass ball knob on top. The brass box is attached to the bottom plate with a bolt through the middle. The bottom is stamped with the triangle and lantern mark of the Bradley & Hubbard Manufacturing Co.

Pencil Holder, ca. 1930-1940, brass, H. 2.75" x W. 3.75" x D. 1.5." SI.2006.005.

Four small brass ball feet are attached to the bottom of a rectangular base with rounded corners made from 16 gauge brass. Soldered to the base are four hollow brass tubes for holding pencils. The pencil holders flank a central brass open-ended box, possibly for holding pens or a small match box. Polished brass finish. Stamped on the bottom with the triangle and lantern mark of the Bradley & Hubbard Manufacturing Co.

A. One oval blotter with two brass faux acid-etched textured edges having embossed raised rectangular and circle motif decorations. Two blotter pads (one mottled red, one mottled green).
B. One "U" shaped brass letter holder having a faux acid-etched texture and two embossed raised rectangular and circle motif decorations flanking a calendar holder. Full set of calendar pages.
C. One oval brass pen tray having a faux acid-etched texture and one embossed raised rectangular and circle motif decoration in the center.
D. One brass knife-shaped letter opener having a faux acid-etched texture and one embossed raised rectangular and circle motif
decoration on its handle.
E. One round, tapering, hinged lidded inkwell having a faux acid-etched texture and one embossed raised rectangular and circle motif decoration in the center. A clear glass ink reservoir rests on its rim inside.
F. One hand-held ink blotter having a faux acid-etched texture and two embossed raised rectangular and circle motif decorations flanking a knob handle in the center. Two blotter pads (one mottled red, one mottled green).

The inkstand and pen tray are stamped on the bottom with the makers triangle and lantern mark.

Letter Holder, ca. 1930-1940, brass, H. 3.75" x W. 5" x D. 2." SI.2006.007.

Four small ball feet support a "U" shaped letter holder formed from a single sheet of 16 gauge brass. Attached to the front is a brass calendar holder. Flanking the calendar holder are two hand-painted rectangular motifs, each with a poly-chrome stylized floral design at the top and a mottled texture below framed with a black border. The back has an elongated version of this painted design. The bottom is stamped on the bottom with the Bradley and Hubbard triangle and lantern mark.

Flat-topped letter holder with rounded corners and four ball feet has a pocket which holds a cellulose coated set of perpetual calendar pages (No.71) copyrighted 1893. The over-all finish is lacquered polished brass. The bottom is stamped with the triangle mark of Bradley and Hubbard Mfg. Co. Matches item number 399 in "Distinctive Metalware for the Home and Office," catalogue published by the Bradley & Hubbard Mfg. Co. in 1934, p.11.

Three piece desk set consists of:
A. A rectangular pen tray,
B. A flat-topped letter holder which has a pocket holding a cellulose coated set of perpetual calendar pages (No.71) copyrighted 1893, and
C. A square, flat-topped inkwell with a clear glass insert.

All pieces have a brown bronze finish and an embossed motif consisting of two circles and a round ended rectangle inside a rectangle. The raised surfaces of the motif are lacquered, polished brass. All are stamped with the triangle mark of Bradley and Hubbard Mfg. Co.  The set matches item number 461 in "Distinctive Metalware for the Home and Office," catalogue published by the Bradley & Hubbard Mfg. Co. in 1934, p.8.

Seven piece desk set consists of:

All pieces have a polished brass finish and an embossed motif consisting of two circles and a round rectangle within a rectangle. The letter opener and the pen tray are stamped with the triangle mark of Bradley and Hubbard Mfg. Co. The inkwell has a brown felt pad on the bottom with a gold and black paper label with the triangle mark of Bradley and Hubbard Mfg. Co. Set matches item number 461 in "Distinctive Metalware for the Home and Office," catalogue published by the Bradley & Hubbard Mfg. Co. in 1934, p.8.

Flat-topped letter holder with rounded corners and four ball feet. The over-all finish is lacquered polished brass. The bottom is stamped with the triangle mark of Bradley and Hubbard Mfg. Co. Matches item number 1538 in "Distinctive Metalware for the Home and Office," catalogue published by the Bradley & Hubbard Mfg. Co. in 1934, p.11.

Letter Holder, ca. 1930-1940, brass, H. 4" x W. 7" x D. 2.5." SI.2006.013.

Flat-topped letter holder with rounded corners and raised oval base. The base is heavy cast brass. The two sides taper inward slightly and are bolted to the base with four bolts. The over-all finish is lacquered polished brass. The bottom has the triangle mark of Bradley and Hubbard Mfg. Co. cast into it.




Pen Tray, ca. 1930-1940, brass, H. .25" x W. 8.75" x D. 8.75." SI.2006.014

Oval Pen Tray with an embossed motif consisting of two circles and a rounded rectangle inside a rectangle. Stamped with the triangle mark of Bradley and Hubbard Mfg. Co. Finished on the top surface with a faux acid-etched texture.

Pen Tray, ca. 1930-1940, brass, H. .25" x W. 8.75" x D. 8.75." SI.2006.015.

Rectangular Pen Tray with flared sides. Textured brown bronze finish. Stamped with the triangle mark of Bradley and Hubbard Mfg. Co. Item number 8291 in "Distinctive Metalware for the Home and Office," catalogue published by the Bradley & Hubbard Mfg. Co. in 1934, p.14.

Pen Tray, ca. 1930-1940, brass, H. .5" x W. 10.75" x D. 3.5." SI.2006.017.

Oblong pen tray with rounded ends and flat rim. Plain polished brass finish. Stamped with the triangle mark of Bradley and Hubbard Mfg. Co. on the bottom.

Calendar Holder, ca. 1930-1940, brass, H. 4" x W. 4" x D. 1." SI.2006.018.

Square brass plate with rounded top corners has a white metal pocket attached in the middle to hold perpetual calendar pages (missing). A small brass ring (for hanging) is attached to the top of the back. A hinged easel stand consists of a rod attached to an acorn-shaped finial and having a double scrolled foot. Plain polished brass finish. Stamped with the triangle mark of Bradley and Hubbard Mfg. Co. on the back. Matches item number 8288 in "Distinctive Metalware for the Home and Office," catalogue published by the Bradley & Hubbard Mfg. Co. in 1934, p.14.

Inkstand, ca. 1930-1940, brass, glass, H. 2.5" x dia. 3.5." SI.2006.019.

The round stepped base supports the cylindrical midsection which is topped by a brass ring. The flat top is hinged to the brass ring. A glass inkwell fits inside the mid-section. The base, mid-section, and top are all painted dark brown. The bottom of the inside of the inkwell holder is stamped with the Bradley and Hubbard triangle mark. The bottom is covered with the original green felt that has a black and gold paper label attached bearing the Bradley and Hubbard triangle mark.

Inkstand, ca. 1930-1940, brass, glass, H. 4.5" x dia. 3.5." SI.2006.020.

Round inkstand has hinged dome-shaped lid with ball knob on top. Dark verde painted finish with Chinese pagoda scene painted in gold, brown and black. Glass insert fits inside. Original green felt pad glued to bottom. Stamped with the triangle mark of Bradley and Hubbard Mfg. Co. on the inside.

Bookrack, ca. 1930-1940, brass, H. 5" x W. 13" x D. 8." SI.2006.024.

Two brass plates with rounded top corners are bolted to square rods and pivot to fold down flat. The plates are embossed with a repeating leaf border surrounding horizontal fluting and an oval in the center. The cross bars are connected to each other by means of three telescoping rods that allow the rack to adjust to hold books. Stamped with the triangle mark of Bradley and Hubbard Mfg. Co. on one of the cross bars.




Magazine Rack, ca. 1930-1940, brass, H. 8.25" x W. 10.5" x D. 4.25." SI.2006.025

Four brass ball feet are attached to the bottom of the base. Two rounded corner uprights are attached to the base and are framed with a heavy brass edging (square in section). A third taller upright with a "D" shaped hand hole in the center top is attached between the smaller uprights. It is "L" shaped and riveted to the bottom. One side is monogrammed"T.E.Y." Stamped with the triangle mark of Bradley and Hubbard Mfg. Co. on the bottom.




String Holder, ca. 1930-1940, brass, H. 4.5" x dia. 3.5." SI.2006.029.

Round base rises to join a brass canister which holds a ball of string. The canister has two pair of concentric rings incised top and bottom. The dome-shaped lid fits into the canister and has a brass bracket which holds a sharpened steel string cutter soldered to the top. The string is fed through a hole in the lid. Stamped with the triangle mark of Bradley and Hubbard Mfg. Co. on the inside bottom.

Notebook consisting of hinged brass covers that hold a small pad of paper attached with two brass screws. The covers are made of 16 gauge brass with rounded corners at the open end. Top cover is engraved with the letter B. Stamped with the triangle mark of Bradley and Hubbard Mfg. Co. on the inside bottom.
