General Information
All Smithsonian Web sites must carry the relevant Museum or
Organization
Lock-up, either the
Standard Flush Left Version or the Standard Centered Version. Use your Smithsonian
organization
Lock-up on the first page going into your Web site, preferably at the
top. If your organization is on the list of Offices and Programs that use
the "Smithsonian Institution" Logo, use Lock-up C or F.
If your organization has been assigned a Lock-up, use it instead of listing
the Smithsonian name and your organization's name separately. If you want to put your
organization's name on subsequent pages, then use your Lock-up. If the organization
name does not appear on subsequent pages, your Lock-up is not required.
The Lock-up should be in a clear space of its own as defined by the
Exclusion Zone. In Web sites, long, two-line
Lock-ups may use the three-line
format.
Do not use the Sunburst alone without the wording as a clickable
icon or as a
bullet. The logo as a complete Lock-up (Sunburst and text together)
may be used as a
clickable icon.
For Web sites, as long as the
Lock-up contains the word "Smithsonian,"
it is not necessary to include the words "Smithsonian Institution" separately on
the page. If the Lock-ups are used in the easy-to-read sizes proscribed in the guidelines and are
integrated into the design of the Web site, there should be no need to repeat the name of
the Museum or Organization separately.
Do not animate or change the colors of the the logo. The graphic
image may be used as a roll-over, but use another approved version of the
logo for the roll-over graphic. For example, use the color logo and then
use the black-and-white logo as the roll-over graphic.
Do not use the logo graphic smaller than 60 pixels high.
Be sure to read the information included in Correct
Use of the Logo.
Do not create the logo graphic yourself. It should be downloaded
in its entirety from this Web site. If you need additional graphic
formats of the logo, contact logoweb@si.edu
or call (202) 633-5182, for assistance.
