Minion Regular
Minion Italic

Minion Bold

Note: The Minion typeface is also available in Minion
Semibold, Minion Semibold Italic, Minion Bold Italic and Minion Black, but
these faces have not been included in the Smithsonian site license.
One of the key factors in any new identity is the use of the typestyle for text,
or running copy, that accompanies the Lock-ups. Using a consistent family of typefaces
that is linked by design to the Lock-ups visually reinforces the identity of the
Smithsonian Institution.
The alphabets above show the primary typefaces available for most situations. Minion
Regular and Italic are also the typefaces to be used for all Lock-ups.
Generally, the only words to be used in all capital letters are the words SMITHSONIAN
INSTITUTION as shown on the stationery items. In this case, the words are always set in type two sizes smaller than the rest of
the text and are tracked +10 in QuarkXpress and +50 in Adobe Illustrator.
When Minion is not available, for example, when word processing, use Times Roman.
Other display typefaces may be used at will, provided that the choice is in keeping with
the subject matter and that a clear space is maintained between the display type and the
Lock-ups of the Sunburst and Name.
The preferred typeface for text is Minion. Other typefaces may be used, particularly if a
sans-serif face is required, but when using a serif face for text, there should be less
need to change typefaces.
