What It's About: This course, the first in a series, provides the foundation for advanced optical microscopy applications and training. Subjects addressed will include: sample selection and preparation; microscope specifications, selection and set-up; design and layout of microscopy spaces; function and use; imaging and protomicrography; specialized techniques and limits of material identification; documentation and analysis; and introduction to specialized applications, e.g. archaeobotany, ceramics, coating materials, natural fibers, metals and wood.
Who Should Attend: This course is tailored to those interested in basic microscopic techniques, sample preparation, documentation and identification of materials from museums or archaeological contexts.
Instructors: Dr. Harry A. Alden, Microscopist, along with other SCMRE staff and representatives from sample preparation and microscope companies.
