Scott Miller

Scott E. Miller
Senior Program Officer for Science, Smithsonian Institution

Scott Miller serves as Senior Program Officer for Science in the Office of the Under Secretary for Science where he coordinates and implements major aspects of the Strategic Plan for Science. Scott holds a PhD from Harvard and has published over 120 papers in systematics, biogeography and ecology. Previously, Miller led the natural science department and Hawaii Biological Survey at the Bishop Museum in Hawaii. In Kenya he directed the biodiversity and conservation program at the International Centre of Insect Ecology and Physiology. In the past 6 years, Scott has served as the Chairman of the Department of Systematic Biology at the National Museum of Natural History, and most recently as the Associate Director for Science at the National Zoological Park where he was instrumental in developing the Zoo’s Strategic Plan and Science Plan. Scott continues his appointment as a research entomologist at NMNH, and as Chair of the Consortium for the Barcode of Life, with a secretariat based at NMNH.
