Museum: African Art Museum
Location: Second Level
This is the first exhibition devoted to the arts and culture of the Urhobo people who live in the Niger River Delta in southern Nigeria. Approximately 70 works of traditional art, including monumental wood figures and water spirit masks, summarizes 40 years of research on the Urhobo culture. A small selection of contemporary works by Urhobo painter and printmaker Bruce Onobrakpeya, one of Africa's foremost graphic artist and painter whose imagery draws upon historical Urhobo art, complements the traditional works.
