Voter registration drives, literacy training, marches, and acts of civil disobedience document the endeavors of American activists to uphold the promise of the Constitution. Photographs of activists include Martin Luther King Jr., Fannie Lou Hamer, Julian Bond, Medgar Evers, James Baldwin, Gordon Parks, Charles Moore, Bob Adelman, Leonard Freed, Matt Herron, Bob Fitch, and Robert Sengstacke.
