Location: George Gustav Heye Center, Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House
The works in this exhibition reveal how ceramicist, fashion designer, jeweler, and painter Virgil Ortiz (Cochiti Pueblo, b. 1969) has incorporated his distinctive personal style with contemporary design, the traditional Pueblo design, and Maori warrior patterns. The exhibition includes nine ceramic Cochiti figures, a mixed media depiction of a horse, and eight original couture works -- two of which are from the artist's collaboration with Donna Karan.
Organized by the Heard Museum, Phoenix, Arizona, and curated by Joe Baker (Delaware). The museum's installation was organized by curator Kathleen Ash-Milby (Navajo).
