Museum: Renwick Gallery
Location: 2nd Floor, Grand Salon
On view are several hundred of the museum's greatest treasures by such artists as Raphaelle Peale, Childe Hassam, John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, and Victor Higgins. The works in this installation feature four periods: Colonial and Federal, American Impressionism, Gilded Age, and the Western frontier. Highlights include 3 Thomas Moran paintings of Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon -- 2 date from 1872 and are on long-term loan from the U.S. Dept. of the Interior, and the 3rd from 1893 and is part of the museum's permanent collection. The paintings are hung salon-style, one-atop-another and side-by-side.
