The West As America: Reinterpreting Images of the Frontier, 1820-1920

164 paintings, sculptures, graphics, and photographs link the opening of the western frontier and critically examine popular misconceptions created by these images of expansion. Major artists featured include Bierstadt, Catlin, Bingham, Remington, Leutze, Fuller, Moran, and their contemporaries. A video presentation is shown in the first floor lobby.
