Location: Galleries 6 & 7
Some 50 examples of paintings, lacquerware, and ceramics from the Japanese and Chinese collections are on view. These items introduce the complex idea of China as it affected Japanese artistic production and appreciation. The idea of China was shaped by objects collected, preserved, and handed down through literature, religious and philosophical teachings, travel, and immigration.
