The Early Sixties: American Culture

April 25, 2014 – August 23, 2015

American History Museum
12th and Constitution Ave., NW
Washington, DC

Location: 1st Floor, Center, History Highlights Case

Celebrate the early '60s as the background for the opening of the National Museum of History and Technology, now the National Museum of American History. American culture of the era was steeped in dominating traditions and social norms, but saw broad-based countercultural and reactionary expressions in response to demands for individual and community freedoms, as well as to period arts, economics, foreign affairs, politics, and environmental and civil rights issues.
