Temple of Invention: History of a National Landmark

July 1, 2006 – January 21, 2008

Museum: Portrait Gallery

Location: 2nd Floor, South Gallery

To celebrate the historic Patent Office Building's 170th anniversary, this exhibition tells its story from its construction begun in 1836 to the current 2000-2006 restoration. Upon completion in 1868, it was the third federal building constructed by the new nation in the capital city. Today it is considered to be one of the finest examples of Greek Revival architecture in the United States.
