Museum: Freer Gallery of Art
Location: Gallery 6A
On view are some significant and decorative solutions to storing and protecting tea ceremony vessels that are treasured as works of art. The variety and quality of the packaging materials -- bags, boxes, and textiles -- reflect the status of the utensils within and the personal tastes of their owners. Objects on view include a cryptomeria-wood incense container, a Seto tea caddy, a black Seto tea bowl, a bamboo tea scoop, and a black lacquer tea container.
