This exhibit displays a tile-sculpture of a table that pays homage to the collard green plant, which often stood between African Americans and starvation in desperate times. An accompanying display of photographs show how the sculpture was created. The sculpture is the work of artist Martha Jackson-Jarvis and a multi-generational group of students from the Washington, D.C., area. The work was inspired by the artist's study of mosaic construction in Ravenna, Italy.
