Some 200 objects from 6 American Indian cultures examine the last 150 years, a period of great social change for Native peoples. Native cultures represented include the Quechua, Makah, San Carlos Apache, Tuscarora, Northern Plains, and Cherokee. One section explores Native American identity as expressed through physical structures and places, and includes an architectural model and the plans for the NMAI museum on the Mall (scheduled to open 2002).
