On view are 19 examples of sculpture--including spectacular examples of gold jewelry--created to embellish sacred spaces in southern Asia. Most of the works are from India, with a few from present-day Bangladesh and present-day Pakistan. The majority of the works are masterpieces and have been in the Freer collection for a number of years, but there are several recently acquired objects as well.
Note: Gallery 18 closes August 17, 2003, and Gallery 19 closes September 7, 2003.
Note: Will reopen May 29, 2004, with new South Asian works.
