Sikhs: Legacy of the Punjab

This exhibition explores the history, culture, and beliefs of the Sikh people, who originally lived in the Punjab (an area now part of Pakistan and northern India), and who follow a 500-year-old
faith -- founded by Guru Nanak (1469-1539 A.D.) -- based on belief in one God, equality, truthfulness, and service.

Highlights include:

• a model of their holy site, the Golden Temple, to help illustrate the Punjab's mix of cultures and faiths
• weapons and miniature-style paintings to introduce the complex  social hsitory and aesthetics of the region
• turbans, jewelry, devotional objects, and wedding clothes to depict the thriving Sikh community of 23 million worldwide
