This exhibition traces the history of art basketry and Pomoan participation in the 19th-c. California art market through 100 historical images and 110 baskets. Art basketry was one solution to the financial problems created by white settlement and the loss of land, resources, and autonomy at the turn of the century. The baskets on view were created by 50 Pomoan women active in the first decades of the 20th century.
Organized by University Museum, University of Pennsylvania.
