Museum: Freer Gallery of Art
Location: Special Exhibitions, Gallery 19
On view are 7 still-life groupings -- assembled by Australian ceramic artist Gwyn Hanssen Pigott -- creating new relationships between 72 objects selected from the Freer Gallery's permanent ceramics collection. Pigott is known for her still-life groupings of bowls, bottles, and cups, in which the assembled forms speak to each other and to the observer with surprising emotion. In the pieces she selected, her choices were curiously sympathetic to the taste of Charles Lang Freer who had chosen most of the selected objects a century earlier.
