Location: North Hall
On view are 44 photographs of the world-famous anthropologist by photographer Ken Heyman, taken between 1957 and 1976. A former student of Mead's, as well as a friend and colleague, Heyman accompanied Mead on several trips to remote villages for her research on families and children. This selection of photographs, accompanied by commentary by the photographer, portrays Mead at work in Bali, Mexico, Italy, and New York City, and at ease among family and friends. This exhibition marks the 100th anniversary of Margaret Mead's birth in 1901.
A former Life magazine photojournalist, Ken Heyman has published more than 20 books, including two collaborations with Margaret Mead: Family (1965) and World Enough (1975).
