Museum: Ripley Center
Location: Concourse, East End, Sublevel 3
Artist Richard Haas' illusionist (or trompe l'oeil) mural provides a dramatic ending to the Ripley's Center's 3-story high skylit public concourse. It depicts the Smithsonian's Castle and Arts and Industries Building, as seen through ancient stone arches. The mural, measuring 40 ft. by 45 ft., is painted in acrylics directly onto the interior plaster wall.
