Museum: Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum
Location: Second Floor
The promotion of tourism in 19th-century America through the "constructed" pastoral landscape is explored through the museum's extraordinary collections of oil studies, drawings, watercolors, and photographs by Homer, Church, Watkins, and Moran. Accompanying this exhibition are publications that helped to communicate the idea of travel -- journals, magazines, and guidebooks featuring the work of these seminal artists. Also, such commemorative decorative arts objects as a souvenir dinner service are included.
