The alarmingly realistic figures of London-based Australian sculptor Ron Mueck (b. Melbourne, 1958) are featured in this show of four works, the centerpiece of which is the Hirshhorn's recently acquired Untitled (Big Man), 2000. Mueck's mixed-media figures are never lifesize, and are often distorted in scale. A strong psychology imbues such subjects as a newborn caught in concentration, and a sleeping woman.
