- Get Involved
September 28, 1987 – April 24, 2005
Museum: Arthur M. Sackler Gallery
Location: Sublevel 3
On view are 9 ceramic vessels (in display cases) by Japanese artists focusing on innovative approaches to decoration. Most of them live and work in communities where decorated porcelain has been produced for several centuries. These artists seek ways of revitalizing the decorative formats associated with those places by incorporating familiar color schemes into contemporary design. In place of the delicate pictorial decoration used in the past, these artists favor large-scale, geometric patterns suited to the greater size of their forms.
