Various objects are used to tell the stories of 13 World War II soldiers and civilians who aided the war effort both abroad and on the home front. Included are the diary of U.S. Navy man John C. Porter who served in the South Pacific during the dropping of the atomic bomb, images of the work of Charles F. Brannock who developed a double-foot measuring device to provide service men and women with fitted shoes, the story of Delight Dickerman who served in the Women's Army Corps, and others who helped transform America and its place in the world.
