December 16, 2005 – April 23, 2007
Museum: Arthur M. Sackler Gallery
Location: Sublevel 1
On view are 36 objects on loan from the Byzantine Collection at Dumbarton Oaks in Washington, D.C., while Dumbarton Oaks is closed for renovation. The centerpiece of the exhibition is a bronze rearing horse with Himyaritic inscriptions -- one of the finest surviving examples of ancient south Arabian bronzework. Other objects include jewelry -- i.e., necklaces -- and secular and liturgical vessels made with various metals.
