The arrival of Columbus in the Americas in 1492 touched of a series of encounters between Native Americans, Europeans, Africans, and Asians that continues to this day. This exhibition looks at several encounters that took place in what is now New Mexico, the first beginning in 1539 between the Native Americans and Hispanics, and then with Anglo Americans who came to the region in the early 1800s. It examines some of the ways these communities have struggled, fought, compromised, and learned to coexist.
