From the National Portrait Gallery's permanent collection, this exhibition consists of 66 paintings of Americans, including works by some of the most important portrait painters the nation has produced. The portraits reflect the range of the gallery's collection, from Joseph Siffred Duplessis' 1785 classic depiction of Benjamin Franklin to Andy Warhol's 1984 pop portrait of singer Michael Jackson.
